  • PG Dry Fire and Ted Robinson at 2008 World’s Greatest Horseman
Despite a couple of tough cows in the herd work, PG and Ted looked good. On the morning of the steer stopping, we heard from all the other riders about how good PG and Ted looked during their morning roping practice at a local arena. They were the guys to try and beat. During the actual steer stopping event, as luck would have it when you combine a cow, a horse, and a rider, PG was in perfect position, Ted through a nice loop, and as we all held our breath, the rope sailed over the steer and fell to the ground. We were all shocked, but that is life in the cow horse business. Our disappointment in the steer stopping was soon replaced with amazement as, in true PG and Ted fashion, they came out with a stunning fence run and WON the fence work preliminaries marking a 225.5 fence work (an average judge score of over 75!), adding several thousand dollars to PG’s earning and another belt buckle. If you haven’t seen the run on our DVD yet, call or email us and we will send you a copy. As Ted says, “PG is the most capable four event horse there is. . . , and goes down the fence better than any horse going up and down the road today.”

Both Dave and Loke comment that every time PG shows it is exciting and fun to watch. PG is an amazing athlete and never disappoints us. He always places in the top 5 and is a crowd favorite due to his athletic style of performing.

  • PG Dry Fire update: PG has been in California since the end of October training with Ted Robinson for the upcoming World’s Greatest Horseman competition to be held February 2008 in Stephenville, Texas. Given that each trainer can only take one horse, we are honored that Ted asked us to show PG again. They had bad luck last year having to scratch in the preliminaries due to PG getting hurt making the trip from California to Texas.
  • AMR Fall Futurity Success – both futurity horses long shots due to early injuries
  • Nampa, Idaho, Idaho Reined Cow Horse Futurity – October 23-28, 2007
Aspen Meadows Ranch takes both the Open and Intermediate Reserve Champions! AMR Renegade Skywalk (Chics Renegade x Folks Starry Lena x SMF Lenas Award) and Jake Telford won Open Reserve Champion at the Idaho Reined Cow Horse Futurity. Nicked named the mini-Reno futurity, Jake and “Luke” were competing against the best riders and experienced futurity horses in the country, several who competed in the Open Finals at the Reno SBF – Luke held his own.. In late May, he had a severe cut, which kept him out of crucial futurity training for 3 months. His first show was at the URCHA futurity which he placed third. And, then his second show he wins Reserve Champion. Anne Reynolds commented what a talented horse he is and “he is so green, you’d never know”. Luke is sired by our stallion Chics Renegade, among he’s many other successful wins was the Open Champion as a three year old at the Idaho Futurity. Renegade does it himself and now is passing it on to his offspring. Luke has won over $10,000 in only 2 shows. Watch out next year at the Derbies.

  • Kalispell, Montana, Montana Reined Cow Horse Futurity, October 11-14, 2007
AMR Just Plain Smart (Color Me Smart x Emma Olena x Olena’s Mint) carried Zeph Schulz to the winner’s circle. “Smarty Pants” and Zeph won the Open Futurity at the Montana Reined Cow Horse. Smarty Pants is owned by Aspen Meadows Ranch. Zeph has been riding the filly since September last year. She got injured in January of her 2 year old year and spent the next 7 months recuperating and unable to be ridden. Zeph said “when I started her she was pretty green, flighty and snorty because she had been out with an injury. She wanted to buck a little and had a little attitude. In June, she just came on, with a lot of try. She just caught on to the fence work a couple of weeks before the show. She has such a big heart, for a little horse. Going down the fence with that huge cow, I swear I was looking up at the cow!” Smarty Pants is out of Loke’s show mare Emma Olena. Emma is a proven mare and now is producing earne
  • Reno, Nevada, NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity
PG Dry Fire and Jake Telford made a phenomenal run during the Open Bridle preliminaries placing 2nd among 25/30 of the top bridle horses. They brought 10 back to compete in the Open Bridle Finals and PG placed 5th. They had a tough, pushy cow down the fence, but PG never let up. As Ted Robinson says about PG, “he makes us smile”. We are so honored to own a horse of his caliber and each time he competes he never disappoints us.

Sarah Allen and her horse Colonel Leo Lux are the 2007 URCHA show series Senior Youth Champions.

Mary Allen and King King Chex are the 2007 URCHA show series Senior Youth Reserve Champions.
  • PG DRY FIRE update: We are thrilled to announce PG Dry Fire’s big win at the NRCHA Derby held last month in Paso Robles, CA. This show featured the largest added money Bridle Spectacular in NRCHA history and PG and Jake Telford won! It was a dramatic finish with PG being the second to last horse to show and needing to score some really high points to win. With an almost unheard of 221.5 in the reining and 223 in the fence work (that is scores of around 74+ from some of the most experienced judges in the country), PG was the champion and we were speechless. It was particularly gratifying due to the fact that with the highest added money ever in an NRCHA Bridle event, all the great horses from around the country were entered as were all of the top riders. The win added over $30,000 to his life time earnings and even more important, reminded the world that PG and his offspring are going to be the wave of the future. PG is already entered in the World’s Richest Stock Horse event to be held August 25th in Paso Robles, California. PG placed well at last years event and with the good work Jake Telford is doing on him, PG is clearly a favorite to win. PG will also compete in the Open Bridle at the Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity and we are working on plans to send him to the World’s Greatest Horseman event in February of 2008.
  • PG Dry Fire was scratched after the preliminary herd work at the World's Greatest due to an injury. During preparation for this show, he strained his suspensory ligament on his rear leg. The vets thought he was sound to show, but after the first event he was very sore. Knowing he has a long show career ahead of him, we made the tough decision in consultation with Ted Robinson that we should not risk further injury and withdrew from the contest. Knowing PG was Reserve Champion last year and that we had two-time champion Ted Robinson at the helm, we were a clear favorite to win so it was even tougher to have to pull out. Oh, well, that is the horse business. Ted described PG as the rare kind of horse that you sit on and "just smile" because he is so talented and well mannered. PG is now in Caldwell Idaho at the Outback Stallion Station and after a few months off, will be in training with Jake Telford.
